Ion Channel Regulation

2027 FASEB Science Research Conference

July 19-21, 2027
The Benson Portland, Portland, OR #ICRSRC

Conference Summary
Ion channels are integral membrane proteins that govern the flow of ions and other solutes across lipid membranes. Encoded by about 1-2% of the human protein-coding genes, ion channels regulate many essential cellular and physiological processes, including neuronal firing and synaptic transmission, muscle contraction, hormonal secretion, fluid and volume homeostasis, gastric acidification, and gene expression. Inherited and de novo mutations affecting ion channel genes directly impact the progression of numerous debilitating human disorders affecting all organs, such as epilepsy, autism, chronic pain, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, cancer, inflammation, developmental, and cardiac diseases. Ion channels represent important targets for existing therapeutics and hold vast untapped potential for future drug development efforts.

This concentrated conference will fuel discovery in this much needed research space by bringing together a global group of leading investigators, rising scientists, and aspiring trainees to share the most exciting cross-discipline developments and concepts in Ion Channel Regulation, establishing new personal contacts and promoting future scientific collaborations, and training future ion channel researchers.

Attendees will learn about:

  • New frontiers in ion channel research
  • Cutting-edge molecular, genetic, microscopic, and computational methods
  • Ion channels and therapeutics

Program topics include:

  • Ion channels in excitable and non-excitable tissues
  • Ion channels from birth to demise
  • Ion channel structure

Workshops:

A Meet the Experts session will address topics including optimization of research funding strategies and maximizing research outcomes though effective collaborations.

A moderated Career Development Workshop will provide trainees and early-stage investigators practical advice on relevant topics such as entering the job market confidently, writing the first research grant, and running a lab as a new investigator.
