GI Epithelium: Models, Maps, and Mechanisms

2027 FASEB Science Research Conference

August 22-25, 2027 (Tentative)
Venue: TBD

Conference Summary
Gastrointestinal research has rapidly expanded to encompass diverse areas of cell biology, physiology, microbiology, and pathobiology. This conference's program will highlight major emerging areas in GI biology, disease mechanisms, and translational research. Core themes will include stem and progenitor cell biology, epithelial reprogramming and plasticity, mucosal inflammation, and neoplasia. Together, these elements will ensure a dynamic, collaborative, and clinically relevant meeting that continues to welcome and advance the GI research community.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Epithelial morphogenesis
  • Stem cell regulation
  • Nutrition and metabolism

Program topics include:

  • Current topics and challenges in GI cancer
  • Epithelial morphogenesis and plasticity
  • Nutrition, metabolism and intestinal stem cells
  • New approaches in organoid and mouse models
  • Stem cell niche for differentiation and disease regulation

Workshops:

Two Meet the Experts sessions will offer attendees the chance to engage directly with leading GI scientists on relevant topics, including how to address "big questions" and addressing/utilizing emerging technologies and approaches in research.

Small group discussions during the Career Development Workshops will provide early-career attendees with in-depth discussions on topics including: establishing collaborations; starting your lab; grantsmanship; working in industry; finding a postdoctoral position; or finding a faculty position.
