Development of a Body of Knowledge for the Clinical Bioinformatician Perspectives

Summary

August 12, 2026

AMP published a collection of papers in 2025 outlining essential bioinformatics roles, responsibilities and competencies for professionals in clinical molecular diagnostic laboratories. The collection, titled “Clinical Bioinformatician Body of Knowledge: A Report of the Association for Molecular Pathology,” is freely available in The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics. The steering committee for the project has now launched a series of broadcasts about their findings and conclusions reported in the collection.

This broadcast will focus on the steering committee perspectives, covering the clinical impact of bioinformatics in molecular diagnostics and precision medicine; a framework for workforce development, hiring, training and competency assessment of clinical bioinformatics personnel; and the regulatory, data security and quality-management requirements associated with clinical bioinformatics pipelines and computational infrastructure.
