On March 25, the White House issued a statement announcing the names of the new members of the re-established President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). Established by an Executive Order that was released in January 2025, PCAST is intended to bring together the “Nation’s foremost luminaries in science and technology to advise the President and provide recommendations on strengthening American leadership in science and technology.” Per the Executive Order, PCAST will be co-chaired by Michael Kratsios, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, and David Sacks, Special Advisor for AI and Crypto.

The new appointees to PCAST are as follows:
  • Marc Andreessen, Andreessen Horowitz
  • Sergey Brin, Google
  • Safra Catz, Oracle
  • Michael Dell, Dell
  • Jacob DeWitte, Oklo
  • Fred Ehrsam, Coinbase
  • Larry Ellison, Oracle
  • David Friedberg, angel investor
  • Jensen Huang, Nvidia
  • John Martinis, University of California, Santa Barbara
  • Bob Mumgaard, Commonwealth Fusion Systems
  • Lisa Su, AMD
  • Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook/Meta Platforms
Per the White House announcement, PCAST is expected to focus on “topics related to the opportunities and challenges that emerging technologies present to the American workforce, and ensuring all Americans thrive in the Golden Age of Innovation.” The administration also noted that the initial roster of 13 members will be expanded “in the near future” as the Executive Order allows for up to 24 individuals to serve on PCAST. To date, Martinis is the only academic scientist who has received a PCAST appointment.

Each president since Franklin D. Roosevelt has established their own advisory committee of scientists, engineers, and industry leaders outside of government to provide advice and information to the administration.
