Lorsch to Lead NIH Office of Extramural Research

On September 18, Jayanta “Jay” Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), announced the appointment of Jon Lorsch, PhD, as the agency’s Deputy Director for Extramural Research (OER). Earlier in the year, Lorsch was named Acting Deputy Director of OER in addition to his duties as Director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), a role he has held since August 2013. Lorsch previewed the new appointment during the recent meeting of the National Advisory Council of General Medical Sciences, noting that Erica Brown, PhD, would serve as acting NIGMS Director, and Darren Sledjeski, PhD, as acting Deputy Director.
