FASEB Responds to Proposed NIH Controlled-Access Data Policy and Genomic Data Sharing Policy Revisions
By: Abigail RandolphThursday, March 26, 2026
On March 13, FASEB submitted comments to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in response to its Request for Information (RFI) on the Draft NIH Controlled-Access Data Policy and Proposed Revisions to NIH Genomic Data Sharing Policy. In their RFI, NIH requested comments on newly established policy requirements regarding which data should be controlled-access under NIH data sharing policies and revisions to the NIH Genomic Data Sharing Policy that aim to simplify requirements.
In its response, FASEB requested additional clarification to define the role of institutions in managing controlled-access data and identify protected data types. FASEB also raised concerns about increased administrative burden and the feasibility of implementation of the draft Controlled-Access Data Policy, highlighting the need for additional investments in existing controlled-access data repository infrastructure to accommodate greater demand.
