On January 26, FASEB transmitted comments in response to a Dear Colleague Letter issued by the National Science Foundation (NSF) seeking input on the agency’s proposed FY 2026 – 2030 Strategic Plan. The strategic plan consisted of three core goals:
  1. Ensure American excellence and national security through investments in transformative research and innovation;
  2. Advance American leadership in science and technology by empowering STEM talent; and
  3. Accelerate NSF’s impact by optimizing capability and modernizing operations.
Each goal included several objectives and strategies towards fulfillment.

In its comments, FASEB highlighted the importance of active engagement and timely and transparent communication with the scientific community. Noting that this call for feedback was issued with a two-week timeline, FASEB also urged NSF to consider the needs of both the agency and stakeholders when establishing timelines requiring feedback from individual scientists and research institutions or organizations.
