By: Galen CobbWednesday, October 22, 2025
In September, the National Academies’ Roundtable on Science and Welfare of Animals in Research launched a webinar series addressing key challenges in the laboratory animal sciences workforce – from recruitment to retention.
The next webinar in the series, “Staffing that Sticks: How Workplace Culture Helps Retain Top Talent in Lab Animal Care,” will be co-hosted by FASEB and the National Academies’ Roundtable on November 3, from 12–1 pm ET.
This virtual session will explore how fostering a culture of care within institutions supports both workforce well-being and animal welfare. A panel of experts will share insights and practical strategies from across sectors to help build more resilient, sustainable research environments:
- Elizabeth Houston, DVM, Clinical Veterinarian and Consultant in Culture of Care Development
- J. Preston Van Hooser, Review Scientist and Compliance Manager, University of Washington, Office of Animal Welfare
- Judy Murray, Director of Animal Welfare Training, Charles River Laboratories
