Monday, December 8, 2025

FASEB and BioCore: A Society Publishing Consortium today announced the appointment of Tammy Hanna, PhD, as Chief Publications Officer. Hanna will oversee publishing strategy, financials, and operations while helping guide the growth, new member society recruitment, sustainability, and impact of the newly launched consortium.

Hanna brings more than 17 years of experience in scholarly publishing, product innovation, and organizational leadership across nonprofit societies, technology start-ups, and academia. At the American Chemical Society (ACS), she directed a $75M+ journals program spanning 24 titles, launched new journals and digital product lines, led partner-publishing transitions, and helped create a peer review training program.

“Tammy is a proven leader who uniquely understands both the challenges and opportunities facing society-led publishing,” said Darla P. Henderson, PhD, Incoming Executive Director & CEO, FASEB. “She is known for consistently delivering results that move the needle. Her extensive experience in strategy, community partnerships, and the use of technology will be invaluable as we work to grow the consortium and meet the federation and our partner society’s missions.

Hanna most recently served as Director of Product Management at AllSci, an AI-driven platform that atomizes and connects scientific knowledge to help researchers publish, explore, and evaluate research more effectively. In this role, she advised the CEO, shaped product and organizational strategy, and defined the roadmap for AI-enabled tools to improve research discoverability and quality. She partnered with engineering and applied machine learning scientists responsible for implementation, managed cross-functional teams, and collaborated with ReviewerZero AI to enhance statistical rigor during peer review.

Previously, Hanna spent more than a decade at ACS in positions including Director of New Product Innovation and Assistant Director and Publisher. In these roles, she expanded ACS’ publishing and digital education portfolio, built and expanded product lines including ACS Institute, ACS In Focus, and SciMeetings, and introduced agile and AI-driven approaches across the portfolio.

“I am honored to join FASEB and help lead BioCore at a time when society-led publishing is at a crossroads,” said Hanna. “Working with the consortium of societies, we can align publishing models with our communities’ values, safeguard research integrity, strengthen trust in the scholarly record, and provide support for the conferences, training, and programs that directly benefit our members and researchers.”

Hanna holds a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Cornell University and a BS in Chemistry from Harvey Mudd College. Her early career includes a postdoctoral appointment in chemistry at UC Berkeley and teaching at Texas Tech University, where she earned two Professing Excellence Awards in Teaching.
