FASEB Responds to RFI on Lowering Drug Prices

Thursday, August 20, 2026
FASEB submitted comments in response to Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden's Request for Information on Commonsense Policy Options to Lower Drug Prices for Patients, issued June 16, 2026. The federation focused on four themes: bolstering biopharmaceutical innovation through robust, sustained federal research funding (recommending at least $51.3 billion for NIH in FY2027); strengthening basic research via reproducibility standards, shared research infrastructure, team science metrics, and appropriate use of animal models and New Approach Methodologies; addressing competition by protecting scientific talent pipelines, opposing proposed NIH/NSF budget cuts, and urging Congress to withhold funding from a rule ending duration-of-stay for international student visas; and drawing lessons from the CHIPS and Science Act, noting that authorized funding increases were never actually appropriated. FASEB also urged Congress to block a proposed OMB rule restructuring federal financial assistance.
