FASEB Opposes Proposed Changes to Civil Service Classifications

On June 5, FASEB responded to a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) issued by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) that seeks to reclassify senior policy-influencing positions within the civil service. While framed as a strategy to “strengthen employee accountability,” the NPRM reduces the ability of nonpartisan civil servants to question executive directives that conflict with existing evidence. FASEB’s comments opposed the proposed rule, specifically noting the importance of relying on data rather than partisanship to guide decisions affecting the Nation.
