Year of Open Science

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) designated 2023 as the Year of Open Science. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of OSTP’s call for increased access to results of federally funded research. In recognition, FASEB is celebrating Year of Open Science alongside OSTP and other federal agencies.

Open science is the principle and practice of making research products widely available, thereby fostering collaborations and improving equity while protecting security and privacy.

In the remainder of 2023, FASEB will highlight open science within our community through

  • A series of free and openly available brief informational videos on open science. These videos will describe the strategic efforts our member societies are taking to advance open science.
  • Two free workshops for member society staff will provide insight to advancing open science (dates to be announced). Topics will include a metascience view—why open science in the biological and biomedical sciences in collaboration with the Center for Open Science—and a practical look at business models for open access in biological and biomedical sciences.
  • Continued partnerships with member societies to offer support for their members on open data. This is being accomplished through FASEB DataWorks!
  • Production and dissemination of white papers outlining FASEB’s experiences across open science and research integrity.
