Calcium and Cell Function

2027 FASEB Science Research Conference

July 12-15, 2027
Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa

Conference Summary

In its fortieth year, this conference will focus on the many ways calcium regulates everything from the birth of a cell (fertilization, cell division) to its death (apoptosis). Calcium controls how the body responds to stimuli, by controlling such activities as gene transcription, neurotransmitters and hormones, muscle contraction, and fertilization. Due to its impact on so many varied bodily functions, it is imperative that we understand the impact of hyper- and hypocalcemia to contribute to a healthier population. This anniversary year will provide an opportunity to reflect on the past and plan for the future, especially with an emphasis on early-career researchers.

Workshops

Two Meet the Experts sessions will offer attendees the chance to engage directly at lunch discussions on sessions like 1) effective publishing (with a journal editor and journal editorial board members from the field); 2) grant writing strategy (with NIH/European funding agent study section members); 3) state of the art imaging techniques; 4) use of bioinformatics and AI in biomedical research; and 5) combining structural and functional approaches- a forum to pair experts in these often disparate disciplines.

A moderated Career Development Workshop will provide early-career investigators with practical advice from more experienced researchers with a focus on how research fellows can prepare themselves for the job hunt by understanding the process of an academic search together with what search committees are particularly focused on seeing in an application, contrasted with how the focus of an industry job search differs.
