By: Ida Chow, Executive Officer, Society for Developmental BiologyWednesday, August 13, 2025
Are you a new faculty in a science discipline within the first three years? Were you just offered a faculty position to start within one year? Do you have a newly hired faculty member in the department? The New Faculty Boot Camp (NFBC) offered by the Society for Developmental Biology (SDB) may just be the place to help them navigate the academic environment, manage projects and labs, grow as teachers and mentors, and develop as leaders.
This initially offered to SDB members only, an in-person workshop organized by SDB’s Professional Development and Education Committee (PDEC) is now a blended learning course open to all interested new faculty this fall (September-December 2025). The 12-week course includes asynchronous and live sessions; reading and writing assignments; discussions on teaching and learning, on grant ideas and funding sources; and advice from experts in academia, business, developmental biology, and related fields. This is also an opportunity to meet and build relationships with colleagues going through similar experiences and share ideas and goals. For details, please visit the SDB website and apply by Friday, August 22, 2025.
