NIH Updates Instructions for Data Management and Sharing Costs

On July 31, the National Institutes of Health issued a guide notice updating application instructions pertaining to submitting budget requests for data management and sharing. The current guidance indicates that costs supporting activities described in the data management and sharing plan be reported as a single line item and only pertaining to costs supporting data management. These instructions have been updated for applications submitted on or after October 5, 2023, to eliminate the requirement to report these expenses as a single line item. Instead, costs associated with data management and sharing must be requested in the appropriate cost category and included within the budget justification.
