In late January, National Institutes of Health (NIH) released a Notice on the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) stipends, tuition, fees, and other budgetary levels for fiscal year (FY) 2021. Year zero postdoctoral NRSA stipends are $53,760 for FY 2021, increased from $52,704 in FY 2020. Predoctoral stipends also increased from $25,320 in FY 2020 to $25,836 in FY 2021. Overall, stipends increased about 2 percent.

The yearly NRSA Notice also details budgetary levels for tuition, fees, training related expenses on institutional training grants, and institutional allowances for individual fellows. These allowances remain unchanged in FY 2021 compared to FY 2020. More information about the NRSA tuition, fees, and health insurance policies can be found in NIH’s Frequently Asked Questions webpage.
