Launched in September 2021, FASEB DataWorks! is a new initiative that brings the biological and biomedical research communities together to advance human health through data sharing and reuse. The initiative consists of four components, including conversation spaces to allow researchers to share common challenges and exchange promising practices for data reuse; programming to hone skills in data management and reuse; and incentives to reward research teams for novel strategies to foster open science. There are several opportunities for researchers to engage with DataWorks! in January:

  • Deadline Extended! DataWorks! Openscapes Champions is a remote-by-design, cohort-based professional development opportunity for researchers to learn open research data practices and apply them to their team’s research activities. The two-month virtual program is designed to help research teams establish shared, reproducible practices for data management and analysis as part of a cohort with up to eight other research teams. Team leaders do not have to be principal investigators, making this an excellent opportunity for postdocs and senior graduate students to gain leadership experience. Nominations were extended by a week and now close on January 14.
  • Learn More About DataWorks! Join us on January 19, 2–3 pm ET for the next DataWorks! Salon, “DataWorks! Whats Ahead in 2022,” and learn about opportunities FASEB is offering to help researchers prepare for the implementation of the National Institutes of Health’s Final Policy for Data Management and Sharing in January 2023.
  • Deadline Approaching! With implementation of NIH’s Final Data Management and Sharing Policy only a year away, FASEB has partnered with the University of California Curation Center’s DMPTool, the Research Data Access and Preservation Association, and the Network of National Libraries of Medicine to launch the DataWorks! Data Management Plan (DMP) Challenge. Challenge participants will use a template based on the NIH policy to organize their DMP, with final submissions reviewed by a panel of expert data practitioners. As an incentive for researchers to test this template, FASEB DataWorks! will award 10 $500 cash awards recognizing outstanding DMPs.Entries are due not later than January 31.
Learn more about these and additional DataWorks! opportunities on the FASEB website.
