FASEB Urges Congress to Provide Financial Support to Scientific Societies Impacted by Coronavirus

FASEB joined other scientific professional societies in urging that relief for non-profit organizations be included in an additional economic stimulus package Congress is currently considering related to the coronavirus. In a letter  to House and Senate leadership, FASEB noted that its 28 member societies are among those who followed guidance from public health officials and cancelled their annual meetings and other scientific conferences to help contain the spread of COVID-19, impacting both revenue and the ability to continue their work in service to the life sciences community. The FASEB letter also requested that the federal government extend zero-interest loans and grants to scientific societies to help them withstand the current economic impact of cancelled meetings and explore ways to expand and partially replace their in-person conferences with virtual options where possible.
