FASEB Submits Comments on IACUC Protocol Review

On October 3, FASEB submitted comments in response to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) Request for Information (RFI) on flexibilities for streamlining the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocol review. 

In addition to offering ways OLAW could encourage institutions to use existing flexibilities, FASEB's response emphasizes that the available strategies are already regularly used. To advance efforts that reduce the administrative burden for IACUCs, FASEB recommends aligning protocol reviews with the NIH grant length to resolve the timing discrepancy. Additionally, FASEB suggests engaging with stakeholders and issuing new RFIs to explore other opportunities for alleviating administrative burdens for institutions and IACUCs.
