FASEB Statement on Research with Nonhuman Primates

On June 11, FASEB released a statement supporting research with animals, including nonhuman primates, and affirmed that this research is vital for the discovery of disease mechanisms, new treatments, and vaccines. In its statement, FASEB emphasized how the genetic and physiological similarities between humans and nonhuman primates uniquely position these animals as the best model to study several disorders, including infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS that impact large numbers of people worldwide. FASEB strongly supports continued federal support for research using nonhuman primate models to ensure sustained progress in the biomedical sciences.
