FASEB Sends Comments to New NIH Director of the Division of Biomedical Research Workforce

On August 4, FASEB sent comments to the new National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director of the Division of Biomedical Research Workforce, Ericka Boone, PhD, congratulating her on the appointment and identifying priority areas to promote safe, inclusive research environments and attract and retain a diverse biomedical research workforce. Specifically, FASEB urged NIH to implement and expand upon past recommendations from NIH working groups to understand barriers faced by scientists from historically excluded backgrounds, collect data on trainee stipend and salary levels to update practices to ensure no scientists is vastly underpaid or loses access to benefits, and reevaluate the definition of “success” for training grants. FASEB looks forward to Boone’s leadership at NIH, ushering in a new era of implementing trainee-focused recommendations to support the next generation of biomedical researchers.
