FASEB Responds to Bipartisan RFI for Next Generation Cures Bill
Wednesday, August 7, 2024On August 6, FASEB submitted comments in response to a House of Representatives Request for Information (RFI) regarding future legislation needed to advance biomedical research. The bipartisan RFI from Reps. DeGette and Bucshon seeks specific feedback on how to build upon the successes of the 21st Century Cures Act and ensure the U.S. can drive the next wave of scientific innovation.
FASEB's comments focus on the third RFI question related to additional reforms, support mechanisms, or incentives needed to improve the effectiveness of progress made thus far. Specifically, FASEB states that National Institutes of Health (NIH) could improve in the following five areas:
- Stable funding and operational support;
- Supporting the biomedical research workforce;
- Improving the diversity of the biomedical research workforce;
- Promoting data management and and sharing;
- Reducing regulatory burden in biomedical research.
