FASEB Comments on Proposed Simplified Framework for NIH Peer Review

On February 10, FASEB submitted comments to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Scientific Review (CSR), supporting the proposed simplified framework for review of grant applications. In these comments, FASEB commended NIH for recentering peer review on scientific merit of proposals and proposing strategies to reduce the implicit and reputational bias of reviewers. Once finalized, FASEB encouraged NIH and CSR to allow ample time to communicate implementation plans, including extensive training for applicants, reviewers, study section chairs, and Scientific Review Officers.
