FASEB Comments on Implementation of Administration's Human Fetal Tissue Policy

Wednesday, September 4, 2019
On September 3, FASEB submitted comments to Francis Collins, MD, PhD, Director of the National Institutes of Health and Laura Trueman, Deputy Director, Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services regarding implementation of the Administration's policy pertaining to extramural research grants proposing use of human fetal tissue. In these comments, FASEB recommends adjusting the placement of the yet-to-be established Ethics Advisory Board so that it falls after scientific review but before Council funding decisions; harmonizing application requirements with animal and human subject specifications rather than requiring justification within the Approach section of the proposal; and modifying the policy to remove the restriction on training grants.
