FASEB Comments on 2020 AVMA Guidelines for Euthanasia in Animals

On April 7, FASEB submitted comments to the National Institues of Health (NIH) Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) in response to the Request for Information on Implementation of the Updated AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals: 2020 Edition (NOT-OD-20-069). In its comments, FASEB expressed appreciation for the new carbon dioxide (CO2) flow rates and recommended the inclusion of additional language about compassion fatigue along with reconsideration that thoracic/cardiac compression be deemed acceptable, consistent with recent literature.
