For 30 years, FASEB’s Excellence in Science Award has recognized outstanding achievement by women in biological science. Beginning with the 2020 award cycle, the Excellence in Science program will be expanded to include two new awards to highlight achievements by early- and mid-career women investigators.

The existing Excellence in Science Award will continue to recognize “lifetime achievement” of women scientists through a $10,000 unrestricted research grant and a special Excellence in Science Award lecture at a FASEB member society annual meeting.

The two new awards will provide opportunities to recognize the efforts of early (within seven years of first independent faculty /research scientist position) and mid-career (within seven to 15 years of first independent faculty/research scientist position). Each award will provide a $5,000 unrestricted research grant and the opportunity to present a special Excellence in Science Award lecture at a FASEB member society annual meeting.

Nominations for the 2020 FASEB Excellence in Science Awards open on January 2, 2019. FASEB encourages nominations of women whose career achievements include excellence in research, leadership, and mentorship. Eligibility for the awards is limited to individuals who are current members of at least one FASEB member society.

Nomination criteria and submission instructions are available on the FASEB website. An informational webinar on the awards will be hosted by FASEB’s Office of Public Affairs on Thursday, January 24, at 2:00 p.m. ET, and will include a question and answer period.  Forms will be accessible beginning January 2 and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET on March 1.
