Research Enterprise Evaluation

The Research Enterprise Evaluation Subcommittee is an ad hoc subcommittee charged with guiding FASEB’s response to policies related to the evaluation of research. “Research evaluation” includes activities to determine scientific quality of a research project, such as peer review, as well as measures to demonstrate or assess the outcomes of an investment in research. Specific subcommittee activities may include, but are not limited to: 1) developing FASEB positions on the current procedures and proposed changes to the process for submitting and reviewing research proposals within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF); 2) monitoring federal and private sector initiatives to measure outcomes from the U.S. federal investment in biomedical research; and 3) tracking and responding to challenges to research quality and integrity in scientific publications. As part of its charge, the subcommittee will examine metrics currently in use to assess research outcomes and will explore the feasibility of adopting additional measures to generate a more robust analysis of the value of biomedical research.
