Driving Data Reuse

Data are a fundamental component of the research process. Over the last 20 years, there has been a growing interest in the benefits of sharing research data. The NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy has put a timeline on practice adoption by the biomedical research community.

FASEB is launching a new data reuse program to build the social fabric necessary for a world where researchers are recognized for reusing data. The workspace consists of four areas: a data salon to support community conversations, a Data Fellows program to build capacity, a data help desk and knowledgebase to support wayfinding for policies and practices, and an annual grand challenge prize for research teams. The workspace will be supported by core staff and engage external partners.

FASEB is uniquely positioned to do this work. Our core activities are centered on connection and collaboration. We are an experienced coalition builder, with 30 member societies that have a strong interest in data reuse, and we are a recognized and respected community advocate—skilled at creating conversation spaces and willing to experiment with new ideas.
