COAST 2018 Innovators' Workshop on Personalized and Precision Orthodontics

Conference Summary

To continue to move the field of orthodontics forward and improve clinical practice, collaborative interactions will be essential among clinicians, educators, and researchers from private practice, academics, and industry. The primary long‐term goal of the Consortium for Orthodontic Advances in Science and Technology (COAST) is to foster high‐caliber, cutting-edge collaborative interactions between clinicians, educators, and researchers aimed at fostering novel developments of importance to the field of orthodontics. To further this goal, COAST workshops are aimed at enhancing the transfer of novel technologies into clinical practice; providing academic and industry researchers’ insights into clinically relevant areas in which to focus future developments of new technologies; providing a stimulating environment for faculty development and recruitment; and serving as a mechanism for faculty development and networking.

The overall objective of the 2018 COAST Innovators' Workshop on Personalized and Precision Orthodontics: Bridging the Biology-Technology Gap, is to continue to move the field of orthodontics forward and improve clinical practice. The workshop will bring together a highly interactive group of experts for presentations and participation in breakout and panel discussions to explore and facilitate the development of “Personalized and Precision Orthodontic Therapy” and to lead the field of orthodontics forward in this area. The COAST 2018 Innovators’ Workshop has been planned in consultation with a Scientific Advisory Board to specifically foster collaborative interactions among clinicians, educators, and researchers from academics, industry, and private practice to enhance the transfer of novel approaches and technologies into clinical practice. Workshop attendees will gain insights concerning orthodontic research in the fields of molecular biology, genetics, craniofacial biolgy, and bioengineering, and will have the opportunity to interact with the pre-eminent leaders who are engaged in the research that is relevant to the clinical practice of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
