The role of the proximal promoter in Ubx regulation. J. Ali , W. Bender. Dept Biol Chem & Molec Pharm, Harvard Medical Sch, Boston, MA.
We are interested in identifying sites at the Ubx proximal promoter which are important for transvection and promoter regulation at this locus. We believe that a deletion of proximal promoter elements may stimulate transvection since large deletions surrounding the promoter have already been shown to do so. We have tried to introduce deletions at the proximal promoter by hybrid dysgenesis, but our dysgenic products have been complicated by remaining P-element sequences. We are currently using gene conversion to introduce "clean" deletions in this region.
