Programmatic Support

The Federation provides the personnel and infrastructure to support programs important to fostering life science research communication and professionalism, where individual Society Members benefit directly.

Meetings and Conferences

The Office of Scientific Meetings and Conferences (OSMC) provides logistical and operational support for scientific meetings to FASEB Member Societies and nonmember organizations. If you are planning a meeting for 50 or 20,000, there are many detailed steps that must be completed and decisions made to assure success. These require the utilization of many systems, tools, techniques, and skills. The professional staff of the OSMC has the expertise, resources and purchasing power. Our objective is to ensure that each meeting is a scientifically rewarding experience and meets financial objectives. Services provided include:

  • Financial Planning and Accounting

  • Committee Meetings and Reporting

  • Scientific Program and Abstract Management

  • Registration, Housing, Transportation

  • Award Programs

  • Marketing and Promotion

  • Media Relations

  • Publication and Education Material Management

  • Exhibit Management

  • Corporate and Community Management

  • Social Functions and Tours

  • Site Searches and Logistics Planning

  • Coordination with Local Officials

Abstracts

Successful meetings management includes the responsibility of providing accurate and comprehensive scientific program listings and abstracts.  A number of FASEB Offices cooperate to complete this task.

  • The Office of Production Services, in partnership with the Telecommunications Department captures the abstract titles and authors for later use in development of the meeting program and abstracts. Production Services also plays a major role in the layout, photographing, and production of the program and abstract books.

  • The Office of Publications edits the title/author information and publishes major meeting programs and abstracts in The FASEB Journal.

  • OSMC cooperates with the Society program committees to arrange papers in proper sequence by subject area, day, time, and location.

The products of this series of activities among FASEB Offices and Society meeting committees are program and abstract volumes for many FASEB managed meetings, most notably the annual Experimental Biology and ASBMB-anchored meetings. This activity benefits not only the meeting attendees, but also produces a permanent record of meeting proceedings.
