Kenneth P. Minneman, Ph.D. is Charles Howard Candler Professor of Pharmacology at Emory University Medical School.  He received a B.S. from MIT in 1974, a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Cambridge University in 1977, and did postdoctoral work at the University of Colorado Medical Center.  He joined the Emory faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1980, where he has remained ever since.  His research at Emory has focused on adrenergic receptor pharmacology and signaling, and has been continuously funded by the NIH for 25 years.  He is on many University and Medical School committees, has been Director of Graduate Studies for Department of Pharmacology, the Program in Physiological and Pharmacological Sciences, and the Program in Molecular Therapeutics and Toxicology.  He has supervised many undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral research associates, and has developed and taught in several graduate pharmacology and neuroscience courses.

Dr. Minneman is also heavily involved in medical education.  He has taught medical and other health science professional students throughout his career, and has been Course Director for Medical Pharmacology since 1997.   He has edited three editions of a textbook “Human Pharmacology: Molecular to Clinical.”  He has served on many medical education committees, including the Strategic Planning, Executive Curriculum, LCME Accreditation, and Admission committees.

His research has resulted in over 170 published articles and received many awards; including the highly prestigious John Jacob Abel Award by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental therapeutics (ASPET) in 1989, and the Award for Basic Science Career Excellence from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturing Association in 2000.  In    2002, he was recognized by the Institute for Science Information as one of the 100 most highly-cited pharmacologists in the world over the past 20 years.  He has given invited seminars at many universities, participated in and/or organized many conference in the US and abroad, served as visiting professor in the US, Chile, China, and Italy; and served as consultant for 7 multinational companies.

He has also serve done many national and international scientific editorial boards and review panels; including being Associate Editor of the two major ASPET journals Molecular Pharmacology and Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.  He has served full terms on two NIH Study Sections (Pharmacology and Cardiovascular/Renal) as well as many other review panels.  He served a three year term on the Executive Council of ASPET from 1999-2002, was Chair of the Molecular Pharmacology Division of ASPET, and is currently serving as President of ASPET during its Centennial year.
