Career Achievements

The Excellence in Science Award is presented to the woman who best exemplifies the best in science.

  1. A scientist who has done meritorious research during her career, as characterized by high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals. The research should ideally span the fields of scientific endeavor of several FASEB Societies in its interest and impact. The publication of seminal papers in journals characterized by a relatively broad readership, such as (but not necessarily) Science, Nature, Cell, J Biolog Chem, Amer J Physiol, etc. (as opposed to all publications in a few highly-specialized journals) would reflect such a level of impact. “Research” should also be viewed in a broad sense; work that is not traditional “bench” research should be seriously considered, if the above criteria are met.

  2. A scientist who has been recognized among her peers for her research capabilities, including membership on editorial boards, review panels, special lectureships, other institutional/national awards, etc.

  3. A scientist who serves as an excellent role model for young scientists in training. The recipient will have demonstrated a high level of mentoring capabilities, such as those gained through graduate level/postdoctoral teaching and guidance, through informal or more formal mentoring/networking activities, etc.

The Excellence in Science Award is presented to the woman who best exhibits the potential to have a long-lasting impact on science through both her own contributions and those of mentored students and post-doctoral scientists from her lab.
