Florence is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany, and the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. The walkable city center is a Unesco World Heritage site. The museums, palaces, and churches are home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art, and examples of Renaissance architecture. These include the Accademia Gallery, Uffizi Galleries, Palazzo Pitti, and the Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore). Surrounding the city are rolling hills covered with villas and farms, vineyards, and orchards.
Enjoy your stay at the Hilton Florence Metropole, located in the west area of Florence. It is just 20 minutes by shuttle bus to Florence's attractions, and only 10 minutes from the Florence Airport. Rooms include one king bed, or two twin beds, an LCD TV, large work desk, and air-conditioning. The hotel offers travelers a business center, babysitting service, bar/restaurant, paid shuttle to downtown Florence, and fitness center with whirlpool.
Temperatures average 81° degrees Fahrenheit (27° C) during the day in June, and 58° degrees (14° C) during the evening. In September, the average temperature is 79° degrees Fahrenheit (26° C) during the day and 57° degrees (14° C) during the evening. Casual clothing is suggested.
If you request a single or double occupancy room, the registration fee covers 5 nights of lodging (Sunday through Thursday night, checkout Friday morning). If you plan to arrive early or stay beyond the official conference dates, you must make your own reservations for the extra nights by contacting the hotel directly. If you wish to extend your stay, please book in advance. You will be responsible for the cost of any additional room nights as well as any incidental charges (i.e. in-room movies, room service, parking, etc.). A credit card will be required upon check-in for incidental expenses.
The Florence airport known as Aeroporto di Firenze-Peretola (FLR) is located 3 km (less than 2 miles) from the hotel.
Taxicab Information from the Airport
It is recommended that you take a taxi from the airport. They are stationed in front of the terminal and will cost approximately 20 euros. Please note, taxis are white, and the cars marked with “NCC” signs are private drivers.
From Florence Peretola Airport:
Follow the signs to the bridge “Viadotto dell’Indiano” and follow it for 2.5 km. At the end of the bridge make a U turn, and take the very first exit on your right.
Self-parking (free outdoor parking), and covered parking is available for 10 euros per day.
There are no shuttle services provided from the airport to the hotel. Taking the train or a taxi is reccomended. A taxi drive is 15 minutes from either the train station or airport and costs approximately 15-18 Euros
The Santa Maria Novella train station is 4 miles (6.4 km) from the Hilton Metropole. The hotel does offer a shuttle to and from the train station on a set schedule for a small fee. Contact the hotel for more information. A taxi ride is 15 minutes from the train station and costs 15-18 euros.
It is not recommended to rent vehicles in the city of Florence. There is ample taxi and train service to accommodate travelers.

Child and Family Care Resources
FASEB provides detailed information for each conference site on the Science Research Conference (SRC) website and also provides venue information directly to each attendee. Although FASEB does not directly provide child care services, attendees are welcome to have guests (including spouses, children, nannies and babysitters) accompany them to the conference to provide such care. FASEB offers an alternative off-site registration fee at all conferences, to accommodate those with special family care needs (the off-site fee includes the conference and all meals but enables attendees to book their own accommodations). Both the FASEB and venue websites include information on nearby off-site accommodations that may assist attendees with locating licensed child care providers and daycare services. The venue management may also provide any assistance to attendees regarding child/family care issues or concerns, if available. Please contact FASEB SRC staff with any special needs that they may have.
