FASEB Submits Comments to USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

April 12, 2018

On April 5, FASEB submitted written comments to the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in response to a request for comment on the use of third parties when determining inspection frequencies under the Animal Welfare Act. FASEB’s comments encouraged the use of third-party inspections, such as AAALAC International, as factors in their already established Risk Based Inspection System. Citing improvements in animal welfare and reductions in findings from past USDA inspections, FASEB suggested that the third-party inspections would allow USDA to use its limited resources to focus on programs that may present a higher risk.
