FASEB BOARD MEMBERS SHOWCASE RESEARCH AT COALITION FOR NATIONAL SCIENCE FUNDING EXHIBITION ON CAPITOL HILL
Created by on 05/29/2012

On May 15th, two members of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Board of Directors participated in the 18th Annual Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) Exhibition and Reception, STEM Research and Education: Underpinning American Innovation. During the event held on Capitol Hill, FASEB and 31 other scientific organizations and academic institutions presented posters describing science, engineering, and mathematics research and education projects supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The Histochemical Society’s representative to the FASEB Board, Eduardo Rosa-Molinar, PhD, presented a poster describing his development of high-throughput three-dimensional imaging technologies to study circuit neuroscience. Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities’ representative Nancy Denslow, PhD participated on behalf of another FASEB member society, the Genetics Society of America and presented her research investigating whether nanomaterials released into the environment adversely affect fish in receiving waters. Held primarily to inform members of Congress and staff about the importance of NSF funding to research and education, the exhibition attracted 270 attendees, including Representatives Lois Capps (D-CA), Hansen Clarke (D-MI), Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI), Rush Holt (D-NJ), and Lamar Smith (R-TX). NSF Deputy Director Cora Marrett, PhD and Assistant Director of the NSF Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences, Myron Gutmann, PhD, were also in attendance. Photos from the exhibition are available for viewing online.

CNSF is an alliance of over 100 organizations, including FASEB, united by a concern for the future vitality of the national science, mathematics, and engineering enterprise. The coalition supports the goal of increasing the national investment in NSF’s research and education programs.
