The President’s FY 2014 budget request for DOE SC is over $5 billion, aligning with the goal of doubling the budgets of DOE SC and other basic research agencies. DOE SC’s Budget includes a 5.7 percent (approximately $200 million) increase over the FY 2012 enacted level and will allow for the continued support of the National Laboratories and the cutting-edge research grants supported by DOE SC. One time funding for a number of awards for Energy Frontier Research Centers, which conduct basic research related to energy, is also included. In addition to funding more grants, the DOE SC Budget will allow more researchers to have access to user facilities.
