FASEB Thanks Senator Patty Murray for Supporting Research

August 25, 2014

Bethesda, MD The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) sent a letter to Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) thanking her for her recent comments in support of the nation’s research investment. Earlier this month, Senator Murray visited the University of Washington with Francis Collins, MD, PhD, Director of the National Institutes of Health. In her statement following the visit, the Senator stated, “…we need to change how we talk about research—this isn’t just another line item on the balance sheet that is ripe for cutting. It is a long-term investment that pays off in global competitiveness, jobs, growth, and wellbeing for families and communities across the country.”

FASEB President Joseph R. Haywood, PhD, noted that FASEB shares the Senator’s concerns about the nation’s investment in scientific research. “Funding for scientific research today is an investment for tomorrow that will improve our health and quality of life. We need predictable, sustained growth for research funding,” he stated.

The letter is available on the FASEB website.
