Teresa Ramirez is a graduate student at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology program. She is presently working at the Claverick Liver Research Center, where her laboratory has demonstrated that in addition to malignancies, environmental agents cause degenerative diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and Alzheimer’s disease, all of which are linked to insulin and insulin growth factor resistance. Ms. Ramirez received her B.S. in general biology from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in 2004. As an undergraduate student, Ms. Ramirez was part of the Minority Biomedical Research Support program, where she was first given the opportunity to learn about biomedical research. After graduating from CSUDH, she was part of the Cancer Research Training Award post-baccalaureate program at the National Cancer Institute. Ms. Ramirez has been actively involved with the society of Advancing Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) since she was an undergraduate student. She has served as a SACNAS student board member and is a member of the SACNAS chapter committee.
