Michou Kelley is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the University of Texas San Antonio/University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTSA/UTHSCSA) Joint Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering. She is older than the average graduate student having worked in industry where she was the director of manufacturing for a leading video and 3D graphics technology engineering company. She raised three children before returning to school to obtain her B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2006. Her current research involves the development of improved targeted drug delivery and controlled drug release using novel LbL nanoencapsulation technology. While an undergraduate, Ms. Kelley was instrumental in the founding of two UTSA-registered student organizations: National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Society of Undergraduate Research (SURe). She enjoys serving as a youth choir director and spending quality time with five grandchildren. She sees mentoring as an opportunity to encourage, inspire and aid students in pursuing their dreams.
