Janice Reuben is a staff development specialist and the Senior Associate for Programs and Outreach at the University of Michigan Center for the Education of Women (CEW) in Ann Arbor. Ms. Reuben is responsible for the implementation and administration of more than 50 leadership and professional development programs each year at the Center.  She also manages the Women of Color Task Force, a staff development network that provides professional development and mentoring opportunities for women of color staff, and hosts the largest staff development conference at the University of Michigan (U-M). She is currently a senior team member of the U-M Career Development Passport Pilot Project, a nationally recognized and award-winning staff development project sponsored by the U-M's University Human Resources office.  Prior to coming to the University of Michigan, she was a senior project manager for Motivational Educational Entertainment (MEE), a minority-owned social marketing and consulting firm that specializes in developing public health education campaigns. Ms. Reuben has a B.A. in history (with a minor in biology), and is pursuing a certification in human resource management.

Breaking the Ice - Janice's "Q&A"

 

 What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

 Making one quart of homemade chai ice cream in my Cuisinart ice cream make and eating all of it myself!

What is your favorite soda?.

 My favorite soda is Cheerwine, a regional drink made in North Carolina.

 What is the scariest thing you have ever done for fun?

 The scariest thing I have ever done for fun was walking across the suspension bridges up in the trees in Vancouver, Canada.

 What is your favorite animal?

 A butterfly is my favorite animal because I always feel happy when I see one, plus butterflies spread the seeds for growth wherever they land.

 What is your favorite holiday?

 My favorite holiday is Labor Day because my twin and I were born on Labor Day in the middle of our family picnic. LOL!!!!

 What is your favorite band?

  Earth Wind and Fire is my favorite band, followed closely by Aerosmith.

 Describe one of the best days of your life.

  One of the best days of my life was whale-watching with my sister, Jayne, off the coast of Vancouver Island. We saw 100 orcas, porpoises, numerous arctic birds and all sorts of wild life.  We almost did not go, but it turned out to be a fantastic day of sightseeing, meeting new people and great food.

 What is your favorite video game?

 A tie -  Wii bowling & tennis because I have reached pro status and maintained it! Plus, now I can even beat my nephew, the tennis phenom!!

 What was the first car that you drove?

 A Buick Century ... into a tree!  

 What is your favorite meal for breakfast?

  My favorite breakfast is shrimp and grits!
